| Hardwood doesn't get much tougher than Hickory, so it's used for all kinds of "handles" from hammers to pick axes. It's real slow growin', and likes the company of taller trees. It also has a lot of heat stored up in it. You can tell the difference when you load up your pot belly stove with hickory! Well, the coals last longer too, and that's probably why it got used so much in smokin' early on. It's an all time favorite for any critter that sounds like "oink!" |
